The 2012 Boulder BMW X5 consists of five trims: xDrive35i, xDrive35i Premium, xDrive35d, X5 xDrive35i Sport Activity and xDrive50i. The xDrive35d and xDrive50i come with the 6-speed automatic transmission, while the other trims have the 8-speed. The 6-speed gearbox has been on the 2012 Boulder BMW X5 since the 2007 model year; the 8-speed was introduced for the 2011 model year.
2012 Boulder BMW X5 Adaptive Transmission Control
Each 2012 Boulder BMW X5 Transmission has Adaptive Transmission Control (ATC). It is a technology that BMW employs on its vehicles to ideally respond to what is going on with the driver or driving habits. The 2012 Boulder BMW X5 Steptronic feature of the ATC enables the transmission to assess the driving and decide on when to upshift or downshift. Thus the automatic gearbox is transformed into a manual one. Steptronic can be activated by moving the gear selector lever.

Two buttons for downshifting are located at the front of the 2012 Boulder BMW X5′s steering wheel, while two buttons for upshifting are located at the back of the steering wheel. These buttons enable you to switch to manual mode in Steptronic without the need to reach for the gear selection lever.
2012 Boulder BMW X5 Improve Shift Quality
The ATC of the 2012 Boulder BMW X5 transmission also helps improve shift quality. The technology does this by gathering a variety of information, such as the driving environment and gearbox changes over time due to wear. For instance, the ATC can make the transmission’s shifts crisper when the driver is being aggressive. During normal driving, the shifting is much smoother.

With the BMW in Boulder, the 6-speed transmission of the xDrive35i, xDrive35i Premium and X5 xDrive35i Sport Activity is paired with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower at 5,800 revolutions per minute (RPM).
